Passion

Recently we watched this play entitled Passion at KL Pac.The play is about conflict that arise to a man when the woman that he love betray him. We all was very excited while on our way to the KL Pac we just can't wait to watch the play. As the play started we are suprised because there is no conversation in play and it is just dancing all the way. Overall the play is boring and the plot is quite simple from any play that we have watched before. I never expected the play would be that boring and the thing that really suprise me is that they receive a big round of applause when the play ended,so we all just claps just for the sake of the play is already finished.

How it is to be evaluated by others?

First of all How it is to be evaluated by others? for Edu3217 class, during tutorials we are evaluated by our peers while we are doing our stimulated teaching. it is a great experience, we really need to be prepared for our stimulated teaching. in this stimulated teaching I'm doing it in pair with Shazni. Last Thursday was our turn and that where it began. First of all, some problem occurs during our set induction and luckily we came out with backup plan which is not our best choice but yet we still manage to go through our set induction. as for the rest of the stage it went well with a few mistake here and there. after we are done with our teaching the feedback we receive Miss Siti Norbaiti are good we admit our weaknesses and try to improve it. Overall the comment we received from our peer was very encouraging as some of them jotted down their comment and encourage us to do better. i was a bit nervous thinking about what are the comment we might get. some of them tell us that it is good because we had a backup plan for our set induction and thank to God because the plan somehow worked. finally the feedback we received will help us to reflect and improve ourselves.

How do you want to evaluate other stimulated?

In our tutorial class we are required to evaluated our friends during their stimulated teaching session. This activity is good as we for the first time get the chance to evaluate them. I think this activity will help our friends to be more prepared for their next stimulated teaching. In fact they are not only depend on the lecturer/tutor comment in order to improved themselves with the comment from their peers the teacher could reflect themselves with the comment their received. Other than that this activity also good for us as we can practice how to evaluate others. This evaluation task require us to be professional, honest and sincere towards our friends because our comment determine their self reflection. Our comment may not be as good as experience lecturer or tutor but it may also help our friends to improved. While evaluate the teacher we as evaluator have to consider every possible aspects so that we can give the suitable comment for them. Evaluating others also will help us to take consideration which one we should do and which is not. This activity is good in a way it help us to review our mistake and help them to improve.

Stella got married to Stanley Kowalski and Blanche keep on living in her past memory.in this play Stanley felt threaten by having Blanche staying in his house as Stella got Blanche to talk to other than relying on Stanley alone. Moreover Stella keep on defending Blanche whenever Stanley tries to push Blanche down.towards the end of this play Stella betray Blanche by sending her to a mental asylum but Stella does not realise that she the only person that Blanche could ask to help her.

As I like it.

First of all I really love this play. Even though the setting is centuries before but this play really excite me. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the way all the actors play their part amaze me as it seem so real. Orlando represents the warrior who is in love with a maiden Roselyn. Moreover, some part of this play tickles our sense of humour.Hehe! The end of this play touches us as all of them found their soul mate and family members. What a happy ending.

Pygmalion

Before watching the drama Pygmalion, I have read the book before. Between the book and the drama, the book was more explicit. Some of the scenes in the book were not included in the drama. However, even some of the scene in the book are not included it does not change the plot. The thing that really gets my attention is the actor were almost exactly the same, the physical appearance for example the hair, height just like what I have read before. The actor utterances were also the same. Among the drama that I have watched before Pygmalion is my favourite.

Hail to MacBeth.

This drama MacBeth is from Shakespeare is about a king who will do anything to gain power. In this drama the king who will do anything for power. In this drama the king seem to be addicted to the power that he had. This drama also shows how cruel the king was. The cruelty of the king shows when he killed innocent people without any reason. What the three witches tell the king comes to reality and he cannot control the power that he had. For wealth and power the king will do anything. Angry to what the king did to his family MacBeth seeks for his revenge for the blood of his family. Finally MacBeth killed the king and overruled his country.

Wallah

Before watching the drama Wallah, my expectations are this drama must be in black and white, it is a Shakespearian way of acting and the costumes are different. However, what I have expected was wrong. This drama is hard to understand at first but then as it played I began to understand it. Although the drama is not very Shakespearian at all the director de includes some act from Shakespearian drama. Some parts of this drama were funny and all of us were laughing while watching it. At the end what we expected to happen were turn the other way. The girl left the man.

Teirisias

Teirisias in Oedipus Rex is a blind man that can predict the future, to this character is very interesting as he is a blind man and have a great ability.as though, Oedipus refuse to believe him and moreover he called Teirisias with names that insult Teirisias. Through futher reading about Teirisias i found a lot of interesting facts about him, how he were curse to be blind and how he was curse to be a woman because he killed a pair of snakes. However in Oedipus Rex, this character play an important part with so little information about him. in Oedipus Rex Teirisias is one of my favourite character and i really love to read more about him.

Ages of man

The poem The four ages of man by William Butler Yeats is about a man who struggle in life from the beginning until he die. The poem is similar to Oedipus Rex where Oedipus has to struggle from the beginning where his parent King Laios and Iocaste give Oedipus to King Laios shepherd, for him to be left and die while he was still a baby. Later Oedipus married to his own mother without he realizing it and he also found out that he was the murderer to his own father. In Oedipus Rex we understand that Oedipus had to suffer from the beginning to the end of his life.

Staging a play

In staging a play there are few elements we need to consider for example the text, the acts, stage direction, space, the actors and time. These are the thing that is essential in staging a play. The actors are the most important element in a play as they give lives to the character. By considering all these elements the play will turn out smoothly and the audience will understand the play. Other conventions involve in staging a play is the aside, the chorus, disguise and song and dance.

More about Drama

Here some more things that I have learned through this class, there two new terms which is Aristotelian and Brechtian types of tragedy drama. These two types of tragedy drama are different from each other. Aristotelian seems to appeals emotion and Brechtian appeals to intellect, as it involve argument and it allows the audience to think. In Aristotelian protagonist relationship’s is to himself and God such as in Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and in Brechtian drama protagonist’s relationship is to society such as in King Lear where he has problem with his daughters betray him except for his youngest daughter. All these things arise in the plot and these are the things to differentiate between Aristotelian and Brechtian drama.

Teaching the Language of Drama

This semester we are taking this subject called Teaching the Language of Drama. On the very first class we are introduce briefly on what this course is all about, it gives me a bit of understanding and also what to expect from this course. I often heard names of Greek playwright such as Sophocles and Aeschylus, but I have never read any of their play before. Then we are informed for this course we are going to study only tragedy drama. As we go on I learn about new terms in drama such as tragicomedy, farce, catharsis and others. Other than that, we are shown there are two types of drama, which is tragic and comedy.
